I'm thinking I'm going to include a cave flashback sequence in order to give a short one page sea monster origin story. I'm thinking it will be similar to this sequence from the movie Ice Age: http://youtu.be/nLZot5qjr2Q. Different content of course, but you get the gist. Problem is, this is a very 2D image sequence, and adding an ocean element would give it depth that mucks up the caveman style.
The picture up top is an excerpt from the book "An Anthology of Graphic Fiction, Cartoons and True Stories" edited by Ivan Brunetti. I was looking at examples of very simple comics and how they are still able to display a story well. The book is open to a comic Quimbly the Mouse by Chris Ware that was sort of helpful. He had a couple other examples that were good, but not really the style I want. There were some trippy examples from Anders Nilsen's The End, but it might be too futuristic.
I think I'll come back to the studios later tonight and if I can sort some of these problems out.
My brother's coming tomorrow! Maybe he'll want to stop by. That'd be cool.
