Everything! The ending, the missing bits, all of it is UP! Right now I'm writing tiny summaries under it all, I'm just taking a break to rest my hand.
BOOM.
Drawing starts tomorrow, I feel like it's Christmas.
THE THUMBNAIL WALL IS UP!

Blew up my thumbnails! In the non-explosive meaning of that word.
I have a lot of work to do on these guys before Monday. I need to redo some of the crappier ones and fill in some holes. I also plan on writing teeny bits of the story arc underneath panels so people know what's happening. Coloring the rest of that comic took longer that I was expecting. Oh well. Back to work. UGH. It's decided.
Even though I'm a bit crap at watercolor, I'm in love and that is how I'm coloring this thing. I love how the palette turned out, in all of its shittiness. I'm putting a stamp of no-going-back on it. I was testing out some weird panel borders too, to see if that's something I want to include. I don't want it to be too busy on the page, but it's something to consider. It felt like no one was around today, probably because most classes were cancelled for the class presentation. Which was AWESOME, but besides the point.
So my goal for the weekend:
In the meantime, I'm finally getting around to doing some color tests. My friend is giving me a workshop on watercolor tonight. I'm going to color some sketches I did today via watercolor but scan them beforehand so I can color them on Photoshop as well. My brain feels like it is in ten places. Did a lot of concept stuff over the weekend that doesn't really translate well. BUT the goal is to start drawing next week. Actual drawing. I'm going to scan in my itty bitty thumbnails and blow them up for the world to see. Bu tI don't think I'm going to sit around and wait for the next critic, I think I'll just bring people in or have them come in, because I can't wait that long for feedback. I need to start these pages now. Here's part 1 of that life comic I was working on. And last but not least, the best of all links.
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/10/131030-kraken-meeting-2013-paleontology-science-sea-monsters/ Some expert is saying that ancient sea squids (krakens, if you will) used to turn the remains of their prey into mosaic self-portraits of themselves. First of all, how freaking cool is that? SEcond, that totally solves my sea-monster flashback scenario. Back to work. My right hand's resting position is now a perpetual claw, and I think (I'm not sure yet) I can predict the rain.
Joking about the second part, not the first. I think I'm going to need those wrist brace things, otherwise my hands might go on strike. On the bright side, finished some side comics and my comics for work, which I'm stoked to color tomorrow. That will be a nice break. That's my comic! All thumbnailed out in itty bitty form.
I'm still missing some things. The mad lib thing earlier worked, I'm just hashing out visual details, so the end is still not completely done. And I want to do a page or two of character flashback. And the whole meet the monster scene is still only in my head, I want to do some villain research in Jeff Smith's "Bone" and relook at some parts from Alan Moore's "V for Vendetta" before I do. But I'm starting to re-edit already to keep on top of things. I dunno if I am going to re-thumbnail everything out bigger for people to see. Because A. That's time I don't want to spare and B. Having every single page of my comic critiqued is going to be a pain in the ass. Maybe I'll redo them just a teeny bit bigger. Not sure. I'm going to talk to the profs about it tomorrow. And the page count is (drumroll please) 64 pages, not including the stuff I have yet to put in. But I think that will take 10-20 pages more, tops. And I'm going to try and make it even more concise if possible. I want to take a step back from all of it for a moment and double check to make sure that this is where I want it to go. I want to do more drawings of the sea, and have it be environmental, but it's more symbolic than anything else at this point. I still really want to draw sea critters. Maybe I can add some into side panels or as part of the panel, like Jessica Fink does with hair in her comic Chester 500 (http://jessfink.com/Chester5000XYV)? Watch out, not safe for work. At all. I wish I had more time. I know I'm going to need more time. I want to be making more comics (even though that's maybe 95% of my life already) and so I've started doing some rough sketch comics of funny anecdotes from my life. Plus, it's a reason to stay mildly productive in my Art History Lecture.
This is a preview, I want to color it and maybe make it into a gif. Some cool examples of gif comics are Zac Gorman (http://zacgorman.com/) and Boulet, a french cartoonist (http://english.bouletcorp.com/2013/10/08/our-toyota-was-fantastic/). This seems to be the way that comics are heading, and I want to test it out for damn sure. I dunno about making my comic all gif-y though. This will hopefully be done by Thursday or Friday, so stay tuned. |
